all proceeds fund the annual student competition

The Tour de Skeeter is a fundraising event held by the VMCA's Student Competition Committee. This event serves to raise money for the annual award given to the winner(s) of the student poster competition. Holding the event around National Mosquito Control Awareness Week also allows us to spread the message about the important work we all do during the year to serve the public and protect them from the nuisance and disease that mosquitoes can bring.

The committee will continue to hold the event in October for more comfortable outdoor weather but spreading mosquito control awareness and supporting the student competition award is still our mission! The event is open to the public and set up as a biking activity but we'd like for people to feel comfortable walking, running, skateboarding, etc. - do what suits you.

This event is a great way to get out of the house and get some exercise. We will be holding the next event Saturday, October 18, 2025 on the Virginia Capital Trail that runs from Jamestown to Richmond, Virginia and meeting up for food and drinks from 11 AM - 2 PM at Billsburg Brewery.

---

We would love for other areas to participate so please contact us if you have a suggestion for another trail! You can check out our Past Tour de Skeeter Page for pictures and stories of past events and of course feel free to contact us at virginiamosquito@gmail.com if you have any questions.
