The City of Norfolk’s Vector Control division is hiring (2) Full-time technicians.

Norfolk Department of Public Health/Division of Vector Control
Working under the direction of an EH Specialist, performs work of routine difficulty in support of permitting activities, investigations & inspections conducted by EH Specialists (EHS) who exercise regulatory authority and provide technical guidance. Characteristic activities include assists with vector control program by surveying areas for mosquito breeding sites, drainage problems, assists with inspections of swimming pools, water wells and other sources of water exposure, by collecting water samples; assists with investigations of animal complaints, monitors confined animals to observe condition, removes animal heads for rabies examination and packages for shipment or transports to lab; searches EH records for historical data on well or septic tank installations; conducts investigations and inspections of routine complaints, recording findings for EHS action.

The City of Norfolk's Department of Public Health is seeking to hire an experienced Environmental Health Assistant II to perform several aspects of arboviral surveillance including field work and laboratory work. The Environmental Health Assistant II analyzes data using databases and Geographic Information Systems and determines best course of action for extermination and breeding abatement.
The City of Norfolk's Vector Control Department aids in protecting the residents of Norfolk against various vectors of disease. Vector Control provides rodent and mosquito prevention and control on city property, including buildings/structures, tidal ditches, larviciding, and species identification. The department works with constituents to conduct backyard inspections, answer complaints, and provide education to citizens.
