Dr. Jorge Arias Student Competition Award

This award is given to the winner of each year's student competition, hosted by the VMCA's Student Competition Committee. This award honors the legacy of Dr. Jorge Arias.


A gifted scientist, Dr. Arias earned his B.A. (1966) in pre–medical sciences and M.Sc. (1969) in biology from Whittier College, and Ph.D. (1973) in entomology from the University of California, Riverside. For 40 years, Dr. Arias was recognized around the world as an outstanding medical entomologist committed to protecting public health.  He devoted much of his professional career to young biologists, entomologists, and scientists through ongoing efforts in the areas of staff and program development.
