During the 2022 VMCA Annual Business Meeting (January 27, 2022), the 2022 VMCA board was announced:
On April 29, Rachel Stradling notified the executive board of her desire to step down from her position. We are sorry to see Rachel go, but we understand.
From this action, Carla Caulkins has now been moved up to vice president and Addison (Addie) Weddle has graciously accepted the nomination and been voted in [by the VMCA Executive Board] as [Interim] First Vice President. Ms. Weddle will be serving out the remainder of the 2022 term in an interim capacity, but the hope is that she will wish to remain an active executive board member for years to come.
That said, it has been brought to the board's attention that further personnel changes may be necessary in the not-so-distant future. Therefore, if you have ever considered becoming an active executive board member, now is the perfect time to attend meetings, ask questions, and learn about each of these important positions.
Update (October 4)
It is with great sadness that I announce to VMCA membership the resignation of Elizabeth Hodson from the Executive Board. Elizabeth, or Betsy as many of us know her, has been a longstanding and very active member of the VMCA for many years. It is my understanding that she will now be embracing a new chapter in her life that will hopefully include some much-deserved R&R. While this news is hard to share, we all wish Betsy the best and hope to see her smiling face at some of our events in the future. Unfortunately, for VMCA this leaves a big hole to fill and once again, I find myself calling on membership to step up. If you or anyone you know would like to learn more about the inner workings of the Executive Board and the VMCA, feel free to reach out to me about the possibility of an interim spot in one of the officer positions. Thanks for all that you do!
Update (January 23, 2023)
As previously indicated in some of my other addresses, the Executive Board has been dealing with turnover at various positions this year. This has resulted in the selection of several interim board members who have fortunately filled the roles to ensure the organization did not experience any lulls in productivity. However, as we approach the end of these terms, your votes become increasingly important.
Currently, Addie Weddle serves as Interim Vice President & Lisa Wagenbrenner as Interim First Vice President but for the board to sustain productivity in 2023 candidates must be selected via the 2023 election ballot. If you have not yet cast your vote, please review the candidates and choose one of the following methods:
1). Search your email for the sent digital ballot and submit your vote by replying to the email. If you are having trouble or need assistance, please reach out to Penny (Penelope.Smelser@norfolk.gov)
Or
2). Wait and obtain a paper ballot at the conference and submit it (to Penny Smelser) prior to the voting deadline of February 15, 2023, at 5pm.
Additionally, the board recently received the resignation of Mr. Kurt Vandock, which has opened an opportunity for someone to fill the position as Interim for the 2023 Sustaining Member Representative. This position is a voting member of the Executive Board and an important link between the board and the industries that provide goods and services to our membership.
