Our annual conference was held as a combination in-person and virtual event January 25-27, 2022 at the Newport News Marriott at City Center. Thank you to all who supported and attended to celebrate this milestone for our organization!
See below for select pdf presentations from the conference, a photo gallery, and more.
The Virginia Mosquito Control Association is governed by a dedicated group of individuals on the Executive Board. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in our 2022 election.
Due to the departure of the 2021 First Vice President, there were two vacant positions to be filled—that of First Vice President and Vice President. Additionally, this year's ballot included two votes on proposed changes to the VMCA Bylaws.
Congratulations to our new board members,
Vice President Rachel Stradling and First Vice President Carla Caulkins!
See the complete 2022 Executive Board.
The results from the two votes on the Proposed Bylaws changes that took place via the ballot were determined to be invalid according to the last sentence in Article XIII Section 1 of the VMCA Bylaws which states the following:
"Any proposal to amend the bylaws shall be submitted to the president at least four months prior to the date of the annual meeting. The president will subsequently submit this to the members of the executive committee for review. The recommendation report will be sent to each VMCA member at least thirty days prior to the annual business meeting. A two-thirds vote of the members present shall be needed for approval."
Thus, another vote was held for those in attendance at the annual business meeting.
You can find the updated document on the Bylaws page.
Congratulations to our winner, Rebecca Trimble of Virginia Tech for their poster titled, "Pathogen spillover into the Asian longhorned tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis in Virginia"
Check out the top 5 posters here along with past years' winners.
Thank you to all participating students and judges!
Thank you also to everyone who donated and bid on items at the silent auction and to all who participated in the 50/50 raffle. The SCC was able to raise considerable funds for future student poster competition awards.
Thank you to everyone who purchased VMCA merchandise! If you weren't able to attend in person or forgot to get that item you were eyeing, purchases can still be arranged for local pickup in Norfolk, VA or through customer-paid shipment. Check out current inventory and ordering information on the Merchandise Page.
