Event Details

The Tour de Skeeter is a fundraising event held by the VMCA's Student Competition Committee. This event serves to raise money for the annual award given to the winner of the student poster competition. Holding the event around National Mosquito Control Awareness Week also allows us to spread the message about the important work we all do during the year to serve the public and protect them from the nuisance and disease that mosquitoes can bring. The event is open to the public and set up as a biking activity but we'd like for people to feel comfortable walking, running, skateboarding, etc. - do what suits you!

Bike riding is a great way to get out of the house, get some exercise, and still keep a good social distance. Depending on restrictions, recommendations, and closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic we will be holding the main event on the Virginia Capital Trail that runs from Jamestown to Richmond, Virginia and meeting up close to the mid-point (~mile marker 22) at Indian Fields Tavern. We would love for other areas to participate so please contact us if you have a suggestion for another trail.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Tour de Skeeter has been postponed, to August 29, 2020. Ultimately, we are at the mercy of federal, state, and local guidelines/restrictions regarding social gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In the unfortunate circumstance that we have to cancel, your registration or donation will still help the Student Competition Committee's ongoing efforts to support the future workers, researchers, and innovators of our ever-changing field of vector control. Regardless of when or if we are able to hold this event, anyone who pays for full registration is guaranteed to receive the VMCA tote bag with t-shirt and other swag.

Please contact us at virginiamosquito@gmail.com if you have any questions.
