The Tour de Skeeter is a fundraising event held by the VMCA's Student Competition Committee. This event serves to raise money for the annual award given to the winner of the student poster competition. Holding the event around National Mosquito Control Awareness Week also allows us to spread the message about the important work we all do during the year to serve the public and protect them from the nuisance and disease that mosquitoes can bring. The event is open to the public and set up as a biking activity but we'd like for people to feel comfortable walking, running, skateboarding, etc. - do what suits you!
Bike riding is a great way to get out of the house, get some exercise, and still keep a good social distance. Depending on restrictions, recommendations, and closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic we will be holding the main event on the Virginia Capital Trail that runs from Jamestown to Richmond, Virginia and meeting up close to the mid-point (~mile marker 22) at Indian Fields Tavern. We would love for other areas to participate so please contact us if you have a suggestion for another trail.
What if social distancing recommendations are still in effect?
We will plan accordingly. You and your family’s health and safety are priority one. If needed, we may postpone the event until later date in the summer (August) or limit the activities of the event on June 20 (biking only, either on the capital trail or a more local location for different members). Whatever happens with the event itself, your registration cost will still get you the t-shirt and other swag, while raising funds for our student competition.
